At 1115 on Sunday 3rd September 1939 British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, announced from the Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street "This country is at war with Germany".

Some four hours after the Prime Ministers announcement a Westland Wallace biplane on strength to the RAF crashed into a Scottish hillside killing both members of the crew.

Wallace K6028 crashed into the south east side of Bruntwood Tap on Bennachie, a hill in Aberdeenshire which has several tops, the hightest is called Oxen Craig at 528 m/1732 feet, and the most distinctive, Mither Tap at 518 m/1699 feet.
