Crash Site of Wellington R1646 from 20 OTU Quite why Wellington R1646 crashed in Corrie-dhub, Glen Clunie is not certain. Initial searches for the aircraft and crew when first reported missing were carried out at sea, the thought being that they had been lost somewhere off the Scottish coast. An estimated position of 57 55N 01 50W was even noted in the 20 OTU Operations Record Book. The actual location that the aircraft crashed is a good 60 miles (96 km) south from Lossiemouth, well inland. It's believed that at the time of the crash the Wellington may have been attempting to return to Lossiemouth as it was travelling in a northerly direction.
